The Peoples Democratic Party has formally dispatched expulsion certificates to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and several others whose removal was approved at the party’s national convention in Ibadan.
A post on the party’s X page revealed that the certificates were presented during Tuesday’s National Working Committee meeting in Abuja, where Umar Damagum handed over party leadership to Senator Kabiru Turaki. The expulsions, first ratified on November 16 over alleged anti-party activities, were revisited before the committee finalized the issuance.
Turaki explained that the step was necessary in line with Nigerian laws guiding political party membership. His comments were shared directly:
“We have taken note of the fact that Nigerian law frowns on dual membership of political parties, and so we have sought to make it easy for them.
“Now that they are no longer members of our party… we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion.
“So that, when they go to register with other political parties… they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP.”
The certificates have already been sent through courier services to those affected, including Wike, former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna and Chief Dan Orbih.
Turaki added that major institutions — INEC, police, DSS and NSCDC — have been informed. He noted that anyone choosing to engage politically with the expelled members “does so at his or her own risk.”
He also said the party is prioritizing internal rebuilding as it positions itself to present Nigerians with stronger political leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
