Police escorts attached to very important personalities (VIPs) in Kwara State have been withdrawn en masse following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the development on Sunday in Ilorin, stating that “the compliance is massive,” and noting that no offenders have been arrested at this stage.
According to reliable sources within the command, only the governor and the deputy governor have retained their police escorts, while all other political office holders have had their escorts withdrawn in line with the order.
It was further gathered that individuals seeking protection are now being referred to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Command Headquarters in Ilorin. However, the NSCDC is reportedly experiencing a shortage of personnel, limiting the agency’s ability to meet the rising demand for security escorts.
