Nigerian singer Portable has been arraigned and remanded at a federal high court in Ota, Ogun State, over multiple criminal allegations.
He appeared in court on Monday facing a nine-count charge, including assault, theft, resisting arrest, and causing harm. The charges relate to an incident on New Year’s Day at his Odogwu Bar in Iyana Ilogbo, where prosecutors allege he attacked his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, alongside several police officers and other individuals.
Authorities also claim that Portable stole a Mercedes‑Benz E300 valued at approximately N12 million, registered to Ileyemi Damilola. Two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified in court, though she was not present.
Portable is further accused of obstructing and assaulting W/Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi while she was performing her official duties.
His bail application was denied because the police officer allegedly assaulted was absent from court. Portable has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to return on January 19 for another bail hearing.
