The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed claims that schools across Nigeria were instructed to close on November 24, 2025, calling the reports “false and misleading.”

In a statement on Saturday, ministry spokesperson Folasade Boriowo clarified that no such directive came from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency. She urged the public to rely only on information from official sources.

“Any announcement, advisory, or notice from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared,” the statement read. “Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it to help curb the spread of misinformation.”

The clarification comes a day after the Federal Government ordered the temporary closure of 41 federal secondary schools in high-risk areas following recent abductions in Niger and Kebbi states. Several state governments — including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger — have also closed schools due to security concerns. In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas directed all public and private schools to immediately deboard students as a precautionary measure.
