Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has accused a coordinated group of enemies of exploiting his wife Regina Daniels’ health challenges to defame and blackmail him.
In a statement from his Communication/Technical Action Team in Abuja on Monday, Nwoko dismissed rumours of marital problems with the Nollywood actress, calling the attacks a deliberate campaign to criminalise him internationally.
He denied claims that he grabbed land in his hometown, clarifying that the land was legitimately allocated to him to build the University of Sports, a project benefiting the community.
Nwoko lamented that progress often attracts attacks from within the society, adding that certain individuals are exploiting “a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to using drugs.”
“The facts are there. Those exploiting her present condition to settle old scores, knowing they have no case against me, will eventually face justice. They must also be careful with the defamatory statements they continue to make because they will be required to prove them,” he said.
He insisted that Regina has not made any credible allegations against him, except that he wants her to seek rehabilitation for substance abuse, a condition he says existed before their marriage.
Nwoko cited Regina’s own admissions and testimonies from her former schoolmates about her drug use and bipolar medication, all documented in verifiable medical records.
“The whole world has read her accounts of substance use, and her former schoolmates have testified online that she and her sister dropped out of school because of drug-related issues,” he added.
He condemned the false narratives circulating to damage his reputation, warning that those behind the smear campaign will have to prove their claims in court.
Addressing rumours about their marriage timeline, Nwoko clarified that Regina, born on October 10, 2000, was married at 19, not 17 as alleged, and that her family publicly gave her out in marriage according to local tradition.
“Our customs do not frown upon polygamy. I married her honourably, gave her a name, and treated her with dignity,” he stated.
He described their marriage as public and transparent, expressing disappointment at the online slander, which he says is a political witch-hunt aimed at undermining his work as a Senator.
“As the saying goes, when a wall cracks, the lizard finds its way in. Regina has become a weak point through which my political and personal enemies are attacking me,” Nwoko said.
He concluded that his marriage is being twisted into a weapon for blackmail to halt his developmental progress.
