SERAP Drags Adelabu To Court
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has taken the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc to court over allegations that ₦128 billion meant for the power sector cannot be properly traced.
The case centres on funds said to be missing or wrongly handled within the Ministry of Power and NBET, raising fresh concerns at a time Nigerians are still dealing with repeated national grid failures and unstable electricity supply.
This includes providing details of payments, dates of release, contractors involved and the officials who approved or handled the funds. SERAP insists the public has a right to know how money meant for electricity infrastructure was managed.
The lawsuit relies heavily on findings from the Auditor-General’s 2022 audited report, which flagged multiple transactions with little or no documentation.
SERAP argues that holding those responsible to account would help curb corruption in the power sector and improve electricity delivery across the country.
The group believes the case could also send a strong message against misuse of public funds. No hearing date has been announced by the court
