Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted dancehall artiste Shatta Wale bail of GH¢10 million with two sureties.

According to Graphic Online, the singer will remain in custody until the sureties provide verifiable properties meeting the bail conditions.

Shatta Wale was summoned on Wednesday to assist in investigations over a Lamborghini Urus linked to proceeds from a $4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian serving a prison term in the United States.

After nearly four hours of questioning, EOCO stated that Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, could not identify the person he purchased the vehicle from, claiming he got it from the “street” or someone possibly called “ZAK,” whose contact he no longer has. The artiste also failed to provide receipts or transfer documents, aside from a Customs declaration in Amuah’s name.

In June, EOCO, working with the FBI and U.S. Justice Department, conducted a search of Shatta Wale’s Trassaco Valley residence in Accra, seizing the 2019 Lamborghini Urus allegedly tied to Amuah’s criminal proceeds. The operation, part of a 2023 U.S. mutual legal assistance request, was peaceful, and Shatta Wale was allowed to surrender the car himself to protect his public image.

U.S. authorities are seeking the vehicle’s repatriation as part of Amuah’s restitution of nearly $4.7 million. EOCO confirmed that both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signal Bureau remain persons of interest and may face further questioning as the investigation continues.
