Six Rivers State members of the House of Representatives have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers—Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi, and Felix Nwaeke—made their defection official on Tuesday.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read their letters during a plenary session, noting that “divisions and unresolved political crisis in the PDP” prompted their decision.
The defectors said the ongoing conflicts within the PDP had prevented them from advancing their political ambitions and expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
With the latest defection, the PDP’s presence from Rivers State in the House has dropped from 12 members to just two. The party had previously lost Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead to the APC last week.
The two remaining PDP representatives from the state are House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda and Kelechi Nwogu.
