SSANU Urges FG On Issues With Non Teaching Union
Non-teaching staff unions in Nigerian universities are calling on the Federal Government to quickly wrap up stalled talks, warning that delays could unsettle campuses nationwide.
The appeal comes from the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities amid growing concern that ongoing negotiations are dragging on for too long.
The call was made in Abuja on Tuesday by SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, shortly after the government finalised a new agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities. He explained that lasting stability depends on concluding similar renegotiations with other unions, including SSANU, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, and the National Association of Academic Technologists.
Ibrahim said non-teaching staff play key roles in keeping universities running, from security and health services to laboratories, power supply and general maintenance.
He warned that ignoring their welfare could disrupt academic activities and derail school calendars.
He urged the government to act fairly, respect collective bargaining, and close all outstanding talks to preserve trust and industrial harmony in the university sector.
