Governor Chukwuma Soludo declared the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) “dead” and “non-existent” in Anambra State following the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s landslide victory in Saturday’s by-elections.
Speaking at a celebratory event in Nanka on Sunday, Soludo took a swipe at his predecessor, Peter Obi, who supported ADC candidates, asserting that the results reflect APGA’s dominance as the state’s leading political movement.
Soludo highlighted the Onitsha North victory, noting it as the home constituency of Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, who has aligned with the ADC coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
“They wanted to use the by-election as a test case for their new concoction called ADC, but the people of Anambra spoke,” Soludo said, emphasizing APGA’s 77% vote share. “The signal we sent was that both ADC and Labour Party are dead in Anambra.”
The governor, addressing cheering APGA supporters adorned with the party’s symbolic cock logo, described the results as a rejection of opposition forces, including high-profile figures like senators and House of Representatives members who backed the ADC and LP.
