Tiwa Savage has opened up about the difficult period she experienced after the birth of her son, admitting that she initially struggled to form a bond with him.
The singer revealed that she had hoped for a daughter, and learning she was having a boy left her in tears. Her postpartum journey was further complicated by physical challenges and a career setback, including losing out on a Pepsi campaign.
“Honestly, I didn’t bond with my son for the first year or two. I always wanted a girl. They told me it was a boy, and I started crying. When he came, he was always crying and my body didn’t snap back. I looked horrible. I was supposed to do a campaign with Pepsi, and they turned me away. I just thought this boy has destroyed me. But now, he is my best friend,” she shared.
Tiwa said she is now focused on raising him to be a respectful and kind young man, frequently reminding him to treat women with care.
“I always tell him, you mum suffered oo, make sure you treat any girl like a queen. It’s very important for me to raise him as a good man. He’s going to make mistakes, he’s not perfect. But at his core, I want him to be kind,” she added.
