Actress Sarah Martins was recently arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) for carrying out activities on public infrastructure without authorization, the Lagos State Government has confirmed.
In a statement on Friday, Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, explained that Martins’ claimed charitable cooking on a road median violated the state’s environmental and sanitation regulations.
“The incident occurred in the Admiralty area of Lekki Phase 1, where an individual was apprehended for engaging in unauthorized activities on public infrastructure,” the statement said. “While charitable efforts are commendable, they must follow state laws to ensure public safety, protect the environment, and maintain urban order.”
Wahab emphasized that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is committed to a clean and sustainable Lagos. He noted that using public spaces without authorization can disrupt traffic, create health hazards, and damage infrastructure.
“Our enforcement actions, including the arrest and removal of equipment, are part of the #KeepLagosClean and #ZeroToleranceLagos campaigns. Residents are encouraged to use designated areas or obtain approval for such initiatives and collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure compliance,” the statement concluded.
