What Triggered The Latest National Grid Collapse
Nigeria was plunged into another nationwide blackout on Friday after a widespread disturbance disrupted the national power grid, according to the Nigerian Independent System Operator.
The incident occurred when several 330kV transmission lines tripped almost at the same time, forcing parts of the network offline and cutting electricity supply across the country.
The system operator said the sudden line failures also led to the disconnection of some power generation units, worsening the situation and making it impossible to keep the grid stable.
Engineers immediately began recovery efforts to restore supply, but the scale of the disturbance meant the collapse spread through the entire transmission system before control could be regained.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over the fragility of the national grid, as repeated collapses continue to affect homes, businesses and essential services nationwide.
