The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu and urged Abuja residents to do the same, declaring that anyone who supports Tinubu will have his backing.
Speaking on Thursday at the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Karu Water Supply Project, Wike commended former FCT senator Philip Aduda and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairman Christopher Maikalangu for attracting development projects to their communities. He announced the immediate construction of a 2km road in Karu at Aduda’s request.
“There is a road you mentioned, about 2km — consider it done,” Wike said. “Support those with the capacity to deliver for the people. Support those the government will listen to. Aduda has the government’s ear, and that is why his request is already approved.”
The minister praised Maikalangu as “very good and hardworking,” noting that he had facilitated multiple road projects — including Saburi, Kabusa-Takushere, and Deidei roads — through his access to government. Wike promised to grant Maikalangu any request if he wins re-election as AMAC chairman, regardless of party affiliation.
“This is the only man I know. If he wins, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know his party, but I know he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike added.
Wike also criticized previous governments for neglecting the needs of Karu residents, particularly clean water supply, contrasting their failure with Tinubu’s administration.
“We’ve had governments here for five years and eight years. Did they ever promise you water? Did they ever provide it? This government promised, and today you have clean, potable water,” he said. “The people of Karu will remember the government that remembers them. Agreement is agreement.”
Aduda, who represented the FCT in the Senate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2011 to 2023, lost his seat in last year’s elections. Maikalangu, who defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2024, is seeking re-election as AMAC chairman in the February 2026 council elections.
