A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Samuel Anyanwu has escalated the party’s internal battle by announcing the expulsion of several key figures, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal and longtime party leader Bode George.
The group also removed PDP BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, the newly inaugurated National Chairman Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja and others linked to the opposing camp.
Alongside the expulsions, they dissolved the State Executive Councils in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo and Ekiti, directing the NWC to install caretaker committees and conduct fresh congresses in all affected states.
Their decision follows the controversial Ibadan convention held last Saturday, which ended with Wike and his allies being expelled by the rival faction — a move that has now triggered a retaliatory purge.
During the meeting, Senator Anyanwu read a communiqué stating that the NEC reviewed a report accusing several members of violating Articles 58(1) and 59(1) through anti-party activities, disregard for court orders and actions said to have damaged the PDP’s integrity.
A new round of disciplinary action was approved against several top leaders, including Adolphus Wabara, Bode George, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman and others.
The faction also ordered Chief Ali Odefa to return all salaries and allowances he received after his December 2024 expulsion. Acting NWC positions were ratified, including the confirmation of Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South East), while the Edo State executive led by Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor was approved.
In a broader directive, the faction instructed the party’s legal team to begin constitutional processes aimed at reclaiming seats from elected members who defected from the PDP, grounding their decision in Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
They concluded by announcing a nationwide reconciliation effort and a comprehensive membership audit ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that unity efforts would proceed without compromising party discipline.
