The Ondo State Government has issued a strict warning to health workers in all 18 Local Government Areas over low performance in the primary healthcare sector.

The Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (OSPHCDA) said that the continuation of health workers in their roles will now depend on their performance.

Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, addressed primary healthcare directors on Sunday, expressing concern over weak results in critical areas, particularly immunisation. He urged workers to improve their performance or risk being replaced.

“Primary health workers have no excuse for underperforming given Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration’s significant investments in the sector, including ongoing projects and the recruitment of more doctors and health personnel to enhance service delivery,” Akanbiemu stated. “From now on, performance will determine your continued stay in office.”

He also encouraged health workers to carry out outreach and awareness programs to boost immunisation rates, stressing that Ondo State has a strong track record in this area. Plans are being put in place to address challenges faced by workers in rural and hard-to-reach areas to ensure quality healthcare reaches grassroots communities.

Akanbiemu commended the governor for the prompt release of funds for various projects and appealed to workers to justify the government’s investment through improved service delivery.

Dr. Victor Adefesoye, State Director of Disease Control and Immunisation, urged Local Government Coordinators to remain committed to achieving 100 per cent success in all health indicators across their jurisdictions.

According to PUNCH Online, the government recently recruited 1,000 health professionals, all of whom have now been deployed to their respective assignments across the state.
