Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, narrowly escaped harm after his convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi on September 1.
Malami, who leads the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, was returning from a condolence visit when assailants struck, leaving 10 vehicles damaged and several supporters injured.
Describing the attack as politically motivated, Malami said,
“I was in Birnin Kebbi solely to pay condolences to families who lost their loved ones. I was away, not for political campaign. It’s painful and unfortunate. Some thugs emerged from the APC state headquarters, armed with weapons and stones, and attacked our convoy, destroying vehicles and injuring our supporters.”
He vowed there would be “no retreat, no surrender” in the state’s politics. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi has denied any involvement in the incident.
