The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammad, has pledged to put an end to “impunity, manipulation, and disregard” for the party’s constitution.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the PDP’s new Board of Trustees at the FCT Minister’s official residence, Mohammad described the event as a “symbol of rebirth” and the start of a new era of transparency and accountability within the party.
Mohammad, formerly the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), stepped in following the suspension of the former National Chairman, Amb Umar Damagum, by a faction led by PDP Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu, who named Mohammad as acting chairman.
In his remarks on Friday, Mohammad lamented the party’s loss of moral direction caused by years of internal divisions and ignoring court orders. He noted, “Impunity became the norm, and internal democracy was forgotten. Today, we begin a path of renewal.”
He urged the party to reflect and unite, pointing out that the party’s decline “did not start yesterday,” but began when zoning principles were overlooked before the 2015 elections.
“Today is a crucial turning point for the PDP. We gather not just to inaugurate a new Board of Trustees, but to renew our commitment to the principles that founded this party—justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law.
“To the new BoT members, this is not a reward for loyalty, but a sacred responsibility to uphold justice, speak truth to power, and keep the PDP a home for all Nigerians,” he added.
After the ceremony, Mohammad held a closed-door meeting with key party figures, including former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom, National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu, and former Abia North Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
