Anambra To Refund Workers Salaries
The Anambra State Government has promised to refund workers whose February salaries were wrongly reduced after missing work on Mondays during declared sit-at-home days.
The announcement was made by the state chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Chris Ogbonna, following the union’s intervention.
Salary adjustments had been introduced in February 2026 to enforce pro-rata payments based on attendance, but many workers reported deductions that did not match the days they missed.
Some employees received only a fraction of their wages, sparking complaints across government offices.
Ogbonna confirmed the error and said the refunds are being processed.
He also appealed to the governor, Chukwuma Soludo, to consider reimbursing contributions made to the state Contributing Pension Scheme.
The TUC praised the state government for its swift response, describing it as a positive step toward resolving the payroll issues caused during the sit-at-home period.
The Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, said he would confirm details with the state Accountant-General.
