ASUU Threatens FG With Strike Over Pay
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has expressed anger over delays in the payment of Earned Academic Allowances by the federal government.
The union said the situation has dragged on for about 18 months without resolution.
ASUU president Chris Piwuna spoke on Thursday during an interview, where he faulted what he described as poor handling of the renegotiated agreement on the allowances.
He said the issue has caused growing frustration among lecturers.
The union stated that members are becoming increasingly tired of repeated delays and unfulfilled agreements.
It warned that the situation could lead to renewed industrial action if not addressed quickly.
ASUU urged the federal government to take urgent steps to clear the backlog and honour agreements reached with university staff.
It said proper funding and respect for agreements are key to preventing further disruptions in the education sector.
