The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for three months over allegations that they attempted to initiate impeachment proceedings against Speaker Hyacinth Dajoh.
The suspended legislators, announced during Friday’s plenary, include House spokesman Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Cyril Ekong (Oju 2), Abu Umoru (Apa), and Shimawua Terna (Kyan).
In the wake of the suspensions, the House reshuffled its leadership: Kennedy Angbo was appointed Deputy Majority Leader, Douglas Akya became Deputy Chief Whip, and Elias Audu was named the new House spokesman.
Also on Friday, the Assembly began the screening of five commissioner nominees, with two others, Ogwu Odeh and Imojime Tiza, scheduled for screening at a later date.
