The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that the high-level Federal Government team currently in the United States, led by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is vigorously countering misleading claims suggesting that Nigeria is persecuting Christians.
“We are not giving room for misinformation to thrive. Our officials are in Washington with facts, data, and a clear message that there is no government-backed persecution of any religious group in Nigeria,” Idris said during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Saturday evening.
He explained that the Nigerian delegation has held meetings with the US Secretary of War, members of Congress, officials of the State Department, and other key American partners. The team has presented verified information on Nigeria’s security situation, offering detailed updates on counter-terrorism operations, inter-agency collaboration, and efforts to safeguard all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
According to the Minister, these engagements are essential in correcting wrong impressions that have been amplified through recent congressional debates and advocacy movements.
“Our objective is clear,” he said. “We are giving our partners the complete picture of the security challenges, the actions the government is taking, and the fact that extremists have killed both Christians and Muslims. These genocide claims are not only false but dangerous.”
Idris added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking the matter extremely seriously. He noted that the President has strengthened internal security systems and deepened international partnerships to enhance counter-terrorism and intelligence work.
He stressed that the mission of the delegation reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to defending the country’s image and ensuring that international decisions about Nigeria are based on facts rather than distorted narratives.
The Minister also noted that Nigeria’s relationship with the United States remains strong, and the ongoing discussions reflect the administration’s openness to dialogue, cooperation, and transparency.
He added that additional follow-up meetings will take place in the coming days as part of a coordinated national effort to address the spread of false claims about Nigeria’s security realities.
Idris urged Nigerians to remain calm, assuring the public that the government will continue to tackle insecurity while engaging global partners to ensure Nigeria is properly represented on the international stage.

Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
