Court Halts FCTA Strike
Workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration were ordered to halt their ongoing strike following a ruling by the National Industrial Court in Abuja.
The decision immediately affects staff across key government offices in the nation’s capital.
The ruling was delivered on Tuesday by Justice Emmanuel Subilim, who presided over the matter involving the FCT Administration and labour leaders behind the industrial action. The case was brought before the court amid a shutdown of public services in Abuja.
The judge held that while the dispute qualifies as a trade disagreement, the right of workers to embark on industrial action is not without limits under the law. He noted that legal processes must take precedence once a matter reaches the court.
According to the court, any strike already in progress must be suspended once a dispute has been formally referred to the National Industrial Court. The action must remain on hold until the court reaches a final decision on the case.
The order is expected to ease disruptions across FCTA offices, which have been affected by the strike in recent days, while the court proceeds to determine the issues at the heart of the dispute.
