EFCC Drags Ex VC To Court
A former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, Prof Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged N19.7 million bribery scheme linked to his time in office.
The case was filed by the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate and heard on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Katsina State High Court.
Bichi appeared before Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar alongside two other defendants, Lawal Tukur Mani and Aliyu Lawal Jari.
Prosecutors accused the former VC of receiving illegal payments from contractors in exchange for awarding contracts within the university.
The commission alleged the funds were collected through the two co-defendants, who acted as middlemen.
All three defendants pleaded not guilty after the charges were read. The prosecution asked the court to set a trial date, while defence lawyers applied for bail.
Justice Abubakar granted bail in the sum of N5 million each with one surety and adjourned the case to March 12, 2026, for trial to begin.
