Obaseki Goes To Court Over Abduction
A prominent Edo indigene, Pedro Obaseki, has announced plans to seek legal redress over an alleged abduction and assault that took place in Benin City in late December 2025. He said the decision followed wide consultations with his family, elders, and legal advisers.
Obaseki said the incident happened on December 28, when armed men reportedly seized him in public during the day. He alleged that he was beaten, stripped, threatened with death, and paraded through parts of the city while the attack was recorded and shared online, leaving residents in shock.
He explained that his decision to go to court was guided by the need for accountability and the protection of human dignity, rather than personal vendetta or political interest. He described the incident as a serious violation of his rights and one that spread fear beyond him as an individual.
To pursue the case, Obaseki said he has engaged human rights lawyer Femi Falana as lead counsel and will explore both civil and criminal actions. He added that relevant international human rights bodies have also been informed due to the wider implications for public safety and the rule of law.
