The Federal Government has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) monitoring centre on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, announced.

Speaking at the commissioning, Umahi described the facility as a critical safety and infrastructure upgrade, part of President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to rehabilitate and secure major federal bridges across Nigeria.

The centre features high-definition CCTV cameras covering both the bridge deck and underwater sections, a dedicated surveillance boat, and two operational Hilux vehicles to support monitoring and rapid response.

According to the minister, the system is designed to curb speeding, prevent traffic blockages, deter vehicle fires, and reduce suicide attempts on the bridge. Real-time monitoring is supported by designated lay-bys, allowing enforcement teams to respond without disrupting traffic.

Umahi also clarified that the government has no plans to toll the newly upgraded Third Mainland Bridge.
