First Aircraft Lands In Zamfara
Dauda Lawal has witnessed the first aircraft landing at Gusau International Airport, marking a major step for the state which has lacked a working airport for over 30 years.
The test flight touched down on Sunday afternoon.
The aircraft, operated by the Federal Government of Nigeria, carried out an assessment to check the airport’s readiness ahead of planned VIP movements.
Authorities said the operation followed all aviation guidelines.
Officials explained that special approval was secured from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority before the landing, with the flight conducted under strict daytime conditions.
The exercise was aimed at confirming safety and operational capacity.
The development is expected to improve access to Zamfara, where difficult road travel has long discouraged investors.
The state government says the airport will open up new economic opportunities once fully operational.
