ICPC Arraign NIPC Deputy Director Over Forgery
A senior official of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission was brought before a court in Abuja after the anti-corruption agency accused him of forging academic records.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission arraigned Yusuf Mustapha, a deputy director at the commission, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama on Thursday.
The case grew out of claims that the official used false documents to secure his job. Investigators said Mustapha presented a university certificate during his employment process in 2010, stating that he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Second Class Honours (Lower Division).
Problems emerged when the ICPC contacted the university to confirm the claim. “However, responses from Ahmadu Bello University reportedly indicated that the certificate was not issued by the institution.
Further documents provided by the university, including graduation lists and the defendant’s academic transcript, allegedly confirmed that the defendant graduated with a Third-Class degree, contrary to the Second-Class degree certificate presented at the point of employment,” the commission said in a statement.
Based on these findings, the ICPC filed three charges against the official, including forgery, use of forged documents, and false statements made during investigation.
After arguments from both sides, the court granted him bail of ₦10 million with one surety living within the court’s area. The case was adjourned until May 5, 2026, for trial to begin.
