IPOB Lawyer Backs US Troops In Nigeria
Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, legal counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has supported the deployment of U.S. troops to Nigeria, describing it as a critical step in tackling the country’s growing terror crisis.
He argued that the arrival of experienced American forces with operational resources signals more than military aid, calling it a demonstration of strategic commitment.
Ejiofor noted that Christian communities in states including Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and Niger have faced ongoing attacks, with churches targeted, villages destroyed, and civilians abducted.
He criticised repeated government assurances, questioning their effectiveness in addressing the scale of the violence.
The lawyer said Nigeria’s insecurity should be treated as a regional and international issue, pointing to longstanding security partnerships between the U.S. and African nations.
He added that the collaboration could improve intelligence gathering, disrupt terror funding networks, and restore public confidence in state security.
He also criticised critics of the deployment, saying sovereignty concerns are sometimes used to block meaningful action.
Ejiofor argued that if the partnership reduces attacks, secures vulnerable populations, and dismantles terror networks, it would be remembered as a decisive step in protecting human life.
