Nigerian juju music legend Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has revealed that he became a father for the first time at just 14 years old.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the Afrojuju icon recounted his early start in the music industry, noting that he began performing at the age of 10 and achieved remarkable milestones while still a teenager.
“I started my career at the age of 10. I had my first child at 14. I bought my first car at 13. I built my first house at 16, and I’ve been going here and there — three cases in a day since I was 16/17,” he shared.
Now 67, Sir Shina Peters said he has no plans to return to the recording studio, explaining that the current environment is “no longer conducive” for creating new music.
He also spoke about his diverse fan base, highlighting that a significant portion of his listeners come from outside his Yoruba heritage. “65 per cent of my fans are Igbos, not Yorubas. My fans are demanding that I give them new music, but I don’t just go to the studio. I can’t go to the studio, the atmosphere is not conducive for me. I don’t know what to sing,” he added.
