Five students from Rivers State University’s Satellite Campus in Emohua Kingdom, Emohua Local Government Area, have been safely rescued, the police confirmed on Thursday.
The abducted students—Prince London, Azubuike Kelechukwu, Elizabeth Aniete, Onyebuchi Precious, and London Sampson—were taken on Tuesday, triggering alarm and leading Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi to suspend academic activities temporarily at the campus.
Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the students were rescued unharmed during a coordinated operation by the police Tactical Teams, other security agencies, and community members at Rumuodogo 2.
“The rescued students have been admitted to a hospital for medical checks,” Iringe-Koko said. “There is an ongoing manhunt to capture the kidnappers, who are suspected to be cultists.”
The police reassured the public that all efforts are being made to secure students’ safety and bring the kidnappers to justice.
