NYSC Relocates Camps Over Security Fears
The National Youth Service Corps has relocated orientation camps in states like Kwara and Kaduna due to rising security concerns.
The scheme said the decision is aimed at protecting corps members and staff, especially in areas considered high-risk.
It also revealed that over ₦500 million has been spent on medical care for corps members in the past five years.
The announcement came as NYSC responded to a report accusing it of exposing graduates to danger.
The scheme dismissed the claims as false and misleading, saying they were capable of causing panic and damaging public trust. It also denied any suggestion of a “ransom clause” in its operations, insisting such claims are entirely unfounded.
NYSC explained that corps members posted to sensitive areas are given security support, including escorts where needed.
It added that camps in states such as Kebbi, Kaduna, Kwara, Borno, Gombe, and Plateau have been moved to safer locations as part of ongoing safety measures.
The agency said it continues to work closely with security bodies to manage risks.
The scheme also pointed to its welfare efforts, including health insurance and emergency medical support for corps members.
It said its partnership with an insurance provider has been in place for years and covers members during and shortly after service.
NYSC urged the public to verify information before sharing, warning that false reports can weaken trust in national institutions.
