Governor Monday Okpebholo has taken steps to boost security in Edo Central Senatorial District by handing over 10 new patrol vehicles to security agencies working in the area.
The move is part of his administration’s wider effort to tackle crime and improve safety across communities in the district.
The vehicles were presented in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, during a gathering attended by traditional rulers from Esanland, security officials, political leaders and community representatives.
Okpebholo said the support was meant to improve response time and strengthen the capacity of security personnel on the ground. He noted that safety remains a key focus of his government and added that security efforts must involve cooperation with local government chairmen and community groups across the state.
The governor also disclosed that his administration had earlier trained 2,500 security corps members who would be integrated with existing operatives and deployed across the 18 local government areas.
Security leaders at the meeting raised concerns about logistics, equipment shortages, intelligence gaps and herdsmen-related threats. They welcomed the new vehicles and confirmed that salaries for operatives had been approved. Traditional rulers also pledged support, with plans underway to set up a security trust fund to help sustain security operations in Edo Central.
