The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to begin drafting his handover note ahead of the 2027 governorship election, stressing that residents are seeking refreshed leadership, improved development, stronger security, accountability, and more purposeful governance.
During a media briefing at the APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, held before the Oyo APC Youth Summit, the State APC Youth Leader, Comr. John Aremu stated that the party’s youths are ready to spearhead the political transformation the state requires.
Aremu said the APC is fully prepared to free residents from what he referred to as the “bondage of the PDP-led administration under Governor Makinde,” insisting that the ruling party should start planning its departure.
He emphasised that the state is due for a new direction driven by competent, energetic, and forward-thinking young leaders.
“We are sending a loud and unmistakable signal to the PDP: APC is coming. The youths are rising. The movement has started,” he declared.
Aremu also pointed to the reconciliation between former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, as evidence of the APC’s renewed unity and readiness for success in 2027. “We know what caused our defeat in the past, and we are rebuilding. There is no division in the APC today. All our gladiators are returning in unity. That’s our strength heading into 2027.”
Speaking on the upcoming APC Youth Summit, Aremu explained that the gathering is designed to reshape the party’s future, strengthen its internal structure, and reaffirm the APC’s progressive ideals. With unity as its theme, the summit will assemble young progressives from all local governments, zones, and interest groups to ensure that no youth is excluded.
He said the summit will serve as an avenue for self-assessment, sincere conversation, and strategic planning ahead of the forthcoming election cycle. According to him, “We must assess our strengths, weaknesses, and the gaps between leadership and the youth constituency—not to assign blame, but to chart a clearer progressive path forward.”
The summit will also introduce a youth-focused strategic roadmap that will centre on political mobilisation, grassroots participation, digital advocacy, community impact initiatives, and campaigns driven by issues rather than personalities.
“2026 is not far. The future of Oyo State must be planned today. This generation of APC youths is not just prepared for the future—we are ready to lead it,” he stated.
Aremu concluded by reiterating the party’s dedication to discipline, loyalty, and adherence to party guidelines.
“Progressivism is built on discipline and loyalty. No party succeeds with indiscipline, and no youth structure thrives without order. We will continue to champion responsible leadership among our members.”
