Peter Obi Takes Protest to NASS
In Abuja on Monday, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi led protesters to the National Assembly over the real-time electronic transmission of election results.
The protest followed rising concern over recent changes to the Electoral Act amendment.
The demonstrators called on lawmakers to restore a clear legal backing for electronic transmission of results from polling units.
They argued that removing the provision weakens transparency and could affect public trust in future elections.
Obi said the action was part of a civic effort to protect the integrity of the vote and ensure that the will of the people is reflected without interference. He stressed that technology remains central to credible elections in a modern democracy.
Security operatives were deployed around the National Assembly as the protest remained peaceful.
Lawmakers are expected to face growing pressure from civil groups and opposition figures as debates over the amendment continue.
