The Borno State Police Command has rescued one girl and intensified its search for 13 others abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters at a farmland in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday in Maiduguri by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command.
He said the incident occurred on Nov. 22 at about 3:30 p.m.
Daso explained that the command received a report from the District Head of Huyum that 14 girls from Mussa District had been taken by armed insurgents while working on a farmland.
He noted that a combined team of police operatives, Nigerian military troops, Civilian JTF members, and vigilantes immediately began a coordinated rescue operation in the area.
“During the operation, one of the abducted girls managed to escape unharmed and was rescued. Search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining 13 abducted girls,” he said.
The statement also quoted the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, as urging residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies while the joint operations continue.
Abdulmajid advised farmers and rural residents to remain within areas covered by security patrols and maintain heightened alertness. He added that further updates would be provided as the operation progresses.
