Residents Decry Rising Food Prices In Abuja
Residents in the Federal Capital Territory have raised concern over rising food prices across local markets, saying the situation is becoming harder for many families.
The complaints came from people in areas like Dutse, Nyanya, and Gwagwalada. Many said daily feeding is now a serious struggle.
Market checks show that prices of key items have increased sharply in recent months. Tomatoes, meat, garri, and beans now cost far more than before.
Buyers said what used to last a week can no longer sustain a household for days.
“What we used to buy for N10,000 can no longer last a week.
“We now cut down on quantity and sometimes skip certain meals, but it is still not enough because every day something new that costs more comes up. It is becoming unbearable,” Haggai said.
” We now buy in cups instead of mudu. Even tomatoes and pepper are now too expensive and to feed a large family now is not so easy anymore but a daily struggle.”
Traders linked the price surge to high transport costs, fuel price hikes, and supply issues from farming areas.
They said rising expenses have reduced profit and pushed many customers away. Residents are now calling on the government to act quickly to ease the burden.
