Tinubu’s Aide Clears Air On NELFUND Loans
The presidency has moved to clear the air over claims that beneficiaries of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund have started repaying their loans. It said no applicant is currently due to make any payment under the scheme.
The clarification came after reports spread online suggesting that repayment obligations had begun. The claim caused confusion among students and families who recently accessed the education loan programme.
The President’s Special Assistant on Social Media explained that the information being shared was false and misleading. He said the loan scheme has clear timelines and conditions, none of which require immediate repayment from beneficiaries.
According to him, the Nigeria Education Loan Fund was designed to ease the burden on students and parents, not to create panic or pressure. He added that repayment will only begin at the appropriate time, as clearly stated in the programme’s guidelines.
The presidency urged Nigerians to ignore unverified reports and rely on official communication from the government and NELFUND. It assured beneficiaries that they would be properly informed well ahead of any repayment schedule.
