The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raised concerns over a fresh method adopted by drug traffickers, who now conceal illicit substances inside items crafted to resemble normal flight boarding passes.
The alert was issued on Sunday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, through a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Babafemi explained that operatives in Lagos recently uncovered the deceptive tactic, which involves hiding dangerous substances, including the drug widely known as Colos, inside documents that appear to be harmless travel passes.
He advised parents, guardians, and the general public to remain vigilant, especially regarding parcels delivered by dispatch riders, noting that traffickers are increasingly using everyday objects to avoid detection.
“These may look like ordinary flight boarding passes, but hidden inside them are harmful substances such as Colos,” Babafemi wrote.
“This is one of the new techniques used to distribute illicit drugs across city centres, as uncovered by NDLEA operatives in Lagos.”
He described the finding as a “wake-up call,” stressing the importance of families monitoring deliveries received by their children and wards.
Babafemi added that “the merchants of death are becoming more creative with their packaging, but the NDLEA remains several steps ahead.”
