United Capital Plc has confirmed that six of its employees lost their lives in the devastating fire at Afriland Towers in Lagos on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
In a statement shared on Monday via their X page, the company named the deceased as Jesutoni Shodipo, Kehinde Adeoye, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, Olumide Oyefodunrin, Opeyemi Oloyede, and Rebecca Adenuga.
Describing the tragedy as “immeasurable,” United Capital said the staff were cherished members of its family.
“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the statement read.
The company offered condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased and assured them of ongoing support during this difficult time. Plans for a memorial service have been announced to honour the lives of the departed, with the event set to be observed “with dignity and solemnity.”
United Capital also called for unity among its workforce, stressing the importance of mutual support during this period of mourning. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” the company added, while commending emergency personnel for their prompt response.
PUNCH Online reported that Afriland Towers, which hosts offices of United Capital Plc, the United Bank for Africa, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, was engulfed in smoke that trapped occupants and forced some to jump from upper floors. The fire claimed a total of 10 lives, including four FIRS staff on duty.
