US Court Criticizes FBI Over Tinubu Records
A United States federal judge has criticised the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration over delays linked to the release of records connected to President Bola Tinubu.
The case stems from a Freedom of Information request filed in 2022.
The judge, Beryl A. Howell, ruled that the agencies used stalling tactics that slowed down access to the documents.
The request was submitted by transparency advocate Aaron Greenspan, with support from investigative journalist David Hundeyin.
The court noted that the prolonged delay went against the spirit of transparency expected under the Freedom of Information Act.
The judge made it clear that government agencies are not allowed to frustrate lawful requests through administrative slowdowns.
The decision adds pressure on the agencies to release the requested records and reinforces the role of the courts in checking abuse of public information laws.
