Voluntary Support For Kanu In Parts Of Southeast – IPOB
Parts of the South-East were calm on Monday as some residents stayed indoors in a voluntary show of support for the continued detention of Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Streets were quieter than usual in some areas, though there were no reports of force or coordinated enforcement.
The group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the weekly sit-at-home order had already been called off following a directive from Kanu.
He explained that the decision to stay at home was now left entirely to individuals.
“This Monday observance is therefore a voluntary civic decision by free people. Biafrans are not slaves; they are free citizens who can decide what to do with their Mondays,” he said.
He added that the group would not compel compliance, stressing that IPOB supports democratic choices and would not harass anyone who decides otherwise.
According to him, those who chose to stay indoors were simply exercising their personal rights.
Some residents who spoke to journalists said their action was driven by one demand, the release of Kanu.
They said full return of normal business activities would only come with his freedom. Emma Powerful echoed this position, saying, “Freedom is a choice. The people have spoken.”
