Wike Approves ₦12 billion For Workers Salaries

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered all staff to immediately return to work following a court ruling that suspended the ongoing strike.

The directive comes as Minister Nyesom Wike approved over ₦12 billion for January salaries, signalling the administration’s commitment to resolving the dispute through dialogue.

Wike explained that the FCT receives only one per cent of federal revenue, which is insufficient to cover salaries and administrative costs alone.

The minister said the administration initially prioritised dialogue and addressed most legitimate demands of workers, but some requests were deemed beyond entitlement.

He stated that court intervention became necessary after political interests hijacked the strike, stressing that strikes should remain a last resort in a democracy.

Wike also rejected claims circulating online that he had been chased from his office during the strike, calling the reports deliberate falsehoods.

Following the court ruling, the acting Head of Service, Nancy Nathan, instructed all staff to resume duties immediately and maintain attendance registers.

JUAC president, Rifkatu Iortyer, appealed for calm, urging workers to comply with the law and remain peaceful amid the security presence, signalling the likely end of the week-long strike
