Wike Compares PDP Defectors To Obi
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has drawn a comparison between party members who left the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
He suggested that both abandoned their parties during critical moments instead of providing leadership.
Wike spoke during his faction’s PDP National Convention, which went ahead despite ongoing legal disputes.
The Supreme Court is yet to rule on the Appeal Court’s decision that nullified the Oyo convention organised by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction, backed by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.
The PDP faction led by Wike has declared it will not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
Instead, it plans to support President Bola Tinubu in his bid for a second term, signalling alignment with the current administration.
Observers say the move could deepen divisions within the PDP as internal factions remain active.
Wike’s comments come amid heightened political tension, with defections and court cases shaping the opposition landscape ahead of the general elections.
