Wike Sues FCT Workers
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken legal action against workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration over their ongoing indefinite strike.
Wike filed a suit at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, naming leaders of the FCTA Joint Unions Action Committee as defendants.
The minister said the union’s prolonged strike, picketing and closure of government offices have disrupted the running of essential services in the nation’s capital.
At the initial hearing, only lawyers for the minister and FCTA appeared before the court. The presiding judge granted leave for the suit to be served on the unions through newspaper publication and notices placed at the FCTA secretariat, and adjourned the matter for further hearing.
Despite the court action, the Joint Unions Action Committee said the strike will continue until its demands are met and urged workers to stay at home in solidarity.
The union described the legal move as an attempt to intimidate members but vowed not to back down.
