Wizkid Says He’s Bigger Than Fela Kuti
A fresh clash has broken out between Grammy-winning singer Wizkid and Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, unfolding across social media platforms on Tuesday.
The dispute drew attention after Wizkid reacted sharply to comments linked to comparisons between his career and the legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The exchange began amid growing tension online, with Wizkid posting a series of remarks on Instagram and X aimed at Seun Kuti.
In his posts, the singer claimed he had surpassed Fela in stature and influence, while also directing personal insults at Seun. The comments quickly spread, fuelling reactions from fans and observers.
The disagreement traces back to Seun Kuti’s earlier criticism of Wizkid’s fan base, known as Wizkid FC. During an Instagram live session, Seun warned fans to stop comparing the singer to his late father, arguing that such comparisons were disrespectful and rooted in ignorance rather than understanding of Fela’s role in music and activism.
Seun also raised concerns about how online fan rivalries were affecting the Nigerian music scene. He said constant comparisons and hostile behaviour among fan groups were creating division and discouraging collaboration between artistes, which could harm the industry’s growth.
As the back-and-forth continues, the episode has sparked wider debate about legacy, respect, and fan culture in Nigerian music. While both artistes command loyal followings, the public spat has once again shown how quickly online disagreements can escalate into major industry conversations.
