Abia To Pay Years Of Unsettled Salaries
The Abia State Government has revealed plans to pay salary arrears owed to former Local Government councillors who served between 1999 and 2022.
Governor Alex Otti disclosed the decision as part of efforts to address long-standing financial obligations.
He explained that many of the affected officials had waited years for their entitlements, adding that the state would begin steps to verify and process the payments.
The move, he said, is aimed at correcting past lapses and restoring trust.
The government noted that settling the arrears would bring relief to former councillors who were left out of previous payment arrangements.
Officials said relevant records would be reviewed to ensure accuracy before funds are released.
The announcement signals the administration’s intention to tidy up inherited liabilities while reassuring former public office holders that their claims will not be ignored.
