Victor Boniface, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker, is returning to Bayer Leverkusen today after medical concerns stalled his potential transfer to AC Milan.
Boniface underwent extensive examinations at La Madonnina Clinic and Galeazzi Hospital in Milan over the past 48 hours but was sent back to Germany without Milan’s approval to finalize the deal.
The delay is linked to his injury history, including two cruciate ligament tears suffered during his time at Bodø/Glimt in 2019 and recurring muscle problems, prompting the Serie A club to take a cautious stance.
Providing an update on Sunday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Milan has not yet cleared Boniface to join, with additional medical checkpoints expected.
“After medical tests at AC Milan, Victor Boniface returns to Germany, as there’s still no green light to his move. After 48 hours in Milano, Boniface will be back in Leverkusen today, waiting for AC Milan’s imminent decision on his medical tests/checks made over the weekend,” Romano said.
The proposed agreement between Milan and Leverkusen involves a €5 million loan fee with an option to buy for €24 million. However, the uncertainty underscores how critical medical evaluations have become in modern football transfers, where a player’s fitness can decide the fate of multimillion-euro deals.
