The father of late Afrobeat artist Afeez Adeshina, better known as Destiny Boy, has called on the public for assistance following the reported disappearance of his son’s SUV just days after the singer’s death.
In a video that circulated on Tuesday, the grieving father said the vehicle, purchased from Lycon Autos, was allegedly returned to the dealership shortly after Destiny Boy passed away and has not been recovered since. He noted that he had personally accompanied his son when buying the SUV.
He explained that on the day of purchase, the dealership provided a driver to deliver the car to their home. Destiny Boy later retained the driver for personal use, but the situation took a turn when the driver claimed the singer owed him money and allegedly returned the SUV to the dealership without notifying the family.
“Nigerians, please help me. My son had a car, an SUV jeep. We went together to buy it. Lycon Autos assigned a driver to bring it home. Later, Destiny started using the driver personally. The driver said Destiny owed him money, so he took the car back to the dealership. I don’t even have the driver’s number. If the car were here, I would have gone to pick it up,” he said.
Destiny Boy died on Sunday at the age of 22. His mother revealed in an interview on Monday that he had been battling a long-term mysterious illness known as “Ogu oru,” which often caused seizures.
The family is appealing to anyone with information about the vehicle to come forward to help recover it.
