Nigeria and Mali have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and tackling regional security challenges.

This followed a courtesy visit by Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, to Mali’s Prime Minister, General Abdoulaye Maiga, during the inaugural International Defence and Security Exhibition (BAMEX 2025) in Bamako.

Leading the Nigerian delegation, Badaru described the Malian reception as “warm and exemplary,” praising the country’s hospitality and emphasizing Nigeria’s readiness to deepen defence cooperation to address shared security threats.

“I bring the goodwill and warm greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Government and people of Mali. Nigeria is committed to working closely with Mali to tackle challenges that threaten peace in our region,” Badaru said, noting that Mali is a strategic partner in regional security.

Prime Minister Maiga expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s participation, calling it “a testament to our enduring friendship and mutual respect,” and highlighted the importance of collaboration in confronting security issues.

The meeting, attended by senior military officials from both nations, underscored their resolve to leverage shared resources and experiences to enhance stability in West Africa.

As BAMEX 2025 concluded, Nigeria and Mali signaled a renewed determination to work together in safeguarding the region against current and future threats.
